How to capture footage of your games

So i decided to write a little post about how i capture my gameplay footage. I do not own any professional equipment or have the time to do serious editing of the captured footage so i just do it the easy way with some cheap equipment and software. It doesn’t have to cost you a lot and is fairly easy to do, all you need is your console, an awesome game to play, some cables and the little device called the
Terratec grabby:This device converts the analog signal of your console (nes/snes/n64/mega drive etc.) into a digital video stream, this means you can record the footage and save it onto your hard drive and do awesome things with it! Devices like this come from really cheap to really expensive where you can get something like this for 30-40 euros ($40-$50).

All the contentc of the box, the terratec grabby, the driver CD with the capturing software, and an extra rca cable.

Now, how do you connect all these things so you can capture your gameplay footage while still being able to play the game on the TV you ask? easy, get a few of these cables:

While the one in the photo above were quite expensive these shouldn’t cost a whole lot, maybe 3-6 euros ($5-$10) each. The male ends of these cables connect with the female ends of the grabby, don’t worry about the s-video connector we’re not using that one:

After that it should look something like this:

Now all that is left to do is connect the AV cable of your console to one set of the connectors (red/white/yellow) and the other set to your TV:

Ready to plug into the SNES and TV at the same time.

After all is connected start recording with the software on the disc that came with the device, I still don’t have any definitive settings for any of the consoles because i just got the device myself. il let you know what settings i use once i have a few good presets.

The first three levels of the game, its been years since i last played the game so atsome places I’m looking around for bonus barrels and such…

I will try to updated different series as much as possible when i have time.

World 1, level 1: Pirate panic

Its funny how i still remembered every bonus stage here after all those years.

World 1, level 2: Mainbrace mayhem

I always like these type of levels, mostly because of the soundtrack.

World 1, Level 3: Gangplank galley

Hated this level as a kid, those damned jumps at the end got me killed so many times!
